According to the Ministry of Education, school attendance in Spain has reached 100% amongst 4 to 15 year olds. For 16 to 17 year olds the figure drops to 85,4%. For 18 to 20 year olds it drops to 60,9%. 32,9% of 21 to 24 year olds are in further education and only 7,5% of 25 to 29 year olds continue studying.
There are 474.397 teaching staff working the public sector in Spain made up of:
- 223.722 are school teachers.
- 149.543 are secondary school teachers.
- 137.000 are technical FP teachers (provide vocational training for 14 to 18 year olds)
- 81.022 are university professors.
4,5% of gross domestic product is spent on education : 4.500 millon euros. This is the lowest of all EU countries (El Mundo.es)
There are now 1,000 infant, primary and secondary state schools in Spain that teach bilingually.
