Cristina Grau is the teacher and project administrator from the school; CEIP Ramon Macip - Dolors Granés, who, with her students have been awarded with the European Quality Label. The School received the award for the project 'Uniting through Legends' which is a collaboration of many European countries.
Cristina Grau explains;
The project “Uniting through legends” originally began between Italy and Spain, but with an idea of adding more countries, and so offering all students and teachers the opportunity to collaborate with lot of European countries. The first idea was to work with just to or three more countries, but, at the end, we are in all seven countries working together and with a really great collaboration. These countries are: Spain, Portugal, Poland, Spain, Italy, Romania, Turkey and Greece. When we had the approbation of the project, we made a plan starting out with a description of our respective country and school. But as soon as possible we wanted to start working on the legends! By internet chat, we - the teachers - agreed on number of legends from each country to write about, to decorate and also to musicate. Now, we were ready to start working with the students! When talking with the students about the aims and goals of the project, and about all of the countries that are involved, of course, they became very enthusiastic, and they wanted to start immediately! They were very interested in this virtual approach with other students from different countries. The pupils worked in groups collecting the data they would share with their new friends. They chose images taken from our school’s brochure and through the Internet, they used digital camera to photograph the class’ groups; then they arranged them on PPT. The aim of the project: To give to pupils and teachers, the opportunity of a simple and a modern European collaboration, in order to teach the children about other cultural heritage in Europe but also to enlarge their knowledge about other nationalities living beside them. In order to achieve this they would constantly need to improve their language skill. And by receiving legends from their partners they will also enlarge their vocabulary by often usage of dictionary. On this project all the students from our classes participated, not just a selected group, but everyone! Of course, this with some differences and also not all at the same level of English or involvement, but we wanted to try and involve all students, also those who never want to do scholastic things!
AND WE OBTAINED IT!!!!! That’s our best satisfaction!!!!! After a discussion in class about myths, legends, fables and fairy tales, we found out which ones of each kind our Ss are familiar with. Then we used questionnaires with myths, mentioned in class and the Ss chose the ones they would like to narrate to their friends abroad. Of course they selected the ones they like the most! That was how we ended up in these specific legends and myths.
