Students from outside the E.U. should take note of the following information provided by the Spanish Consulate in New York. A student visa is obligatory for any foreign person wishing to get education in Spain for more than 3 months. People can go to Spain with no visa for tourist and business purposes for no longer than 90 days, after that period a visa is necessary. The visa is given in your country of residence before your departure. You can get no visa in Spain, also you cannot have the one sent to you. So, the visa is stamped in your passport prior to your departure of your country, and it must be shown to officials upon the entry into Spain. Every student visa is valid for a term of 90 days starting from your day of entry to Spain, and during which period you must get in touch with the local authorities in order to acquire your student residency card. The “Spanish Student Residency Card” is then valid for as much time as you are registered in the course in Spain. Because of the great demand for Spanish student visas, it is essential that you allow sufficient time for your Consulate to issue your visa. On especially busy hours at the Consulate it is occasionally not possible to deal with all the applicants on the same day, as a result it is advisable to arrive as early as possible. Photographs equivalent to those used in a passport are necessary to submit all the documentation.
