English language teachers are always in demand in Spain where learning English is becoming a necessity when working in many industries. Most private academies insist on a TEFL qualification although sometimes you can get by with a degree in English instead.

Years ago teaching English in Spain was very easy you often just had to be ‘English speaking’. But times have definitely changed as qualifications are now king! Looking for an English teaching job is quite easy using the internet although many of the smaller language schools only advertise on notice boards and local newspapers, success is often just a case of being in the right place at the right time. TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) refers to teaching people whose first language is not English, but who need to learn it for work or leisure.

It pays to do as much research as possible before choosing your destination in Spain.

City’s and large towns often provide the volume of work but the competition from other job seekers is also much greater. Whichever certificate you manage to acquire you are sure to enjoy and new and exciting time in your life teaching English overseas.
