Teaching English in Spain can offer you the perfect location to try out your new skills – there are many rich and diverse areas of Spain to choose from.

English language teachers are always in demand in Spain where learning English is becoming a necessity when working in many industries. Most private academies insist on a TEFL qualification although sometimes you can get by with a degree in English instead.

Years ago teaching English in Spain was very easy you often just had to be ‘English speaking’. But times have definitely changed as qualifications are now king! Looking for an English teaching job is quite easy using the internet although many of the smaller language schools only advertise on notice boards and local newspapers, success is often just a case of being in the right place at the right time. There are now many great websites dedicated to working abroad and Teaching English in Spain.

Teaching English overseas is a dream for many seeking a more relaxed pace of life and a new adventure in their career.

If you are determined to make teaching English as a second language your new career make sure you invest in only the best certification programs in available. There are several options available. TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) refers to teaching people whose first language is not English, but who need to learn it for work or leisure.

These students are usually adults choosing to enhance their employment prospects or employees of larger companies that wish their staff to speak English. TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) , similar to TEFL, but it is also used to describe English language teaching to people living in an English speaking country who are not native English speakers – such as refugees.

This teaching is provided by the state, and supported in the UK by the Learning and Skills Council. Students are not required to pay for their own lessons. In the UK, TESOL courses provide students with a level of English that will allow them to integrate into the country’s educational, work and cultural environment. A basic literacy course usually enhances the course.

For a shorter course on teaching English overseas you could try an online course – these coursed often provide low cost ITC TEFL training and are great for those among you with less experience in teaching and merely want to dip your toe into teaching English. It may be a good idea to take a course in Spain that way you can also be looking for potential work whilst learning. It pays to do as much research as possible before choosing your destination in Spain.

City’s and large towns often provide the volume of work but the competition from other job seekers is also much greater. Whichever certificate you manage to acquire you are sure to enjoy and new and exciting time in your life teaching English overseas.
