International Schools in Spain

International Schools in Spain, or colegios internacionales, as they are called in Spanish can be found in most cities around Spain, including on the Balearic Islands and Canary Islands.

Every year, the Spanish newspaper El Mundo produces a supplement which lists the 100 best schools in Spain and top International Schools throughout the Spanish Peninsula and Islands.

The International Schools are ranked separately from the Spanish schools because, although they are recognized by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Ciencias (MEC) and all teach a minimum level of Spanish language, literature, geography and history, they all have a different curriculum to the Spanish schools.  The curriculum also varies from one international school to another.

All the international schools in Spain are private – many follow a UK curriculum and examination procedure. In our online guide to the best International Schools in Spain, we also feature Swiss, German, British, Italian, French and American schools.

Although there is a collaboration agreement between the Ministry of Education and Culture and The British Council in which students who study in certain Spanish school educational centres can simultaneously obtain the academic titles of Spain and their own country. Most of the private British schools offer A-Levels and / or the IB (International Baccalaureate) programs.
